I'm Matthew Dyet. My partner, Melissa Cooper, was put in hospital on the 8th of November, 2018 after it was discovered she had a massive blood clot running from her heart to her liver. The doctors diagnosed it as the result of Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome, Lupus, Immune Thrombocytopenia, or some other immune disease or combination thereof. After major surgery removed two tangerine sized clots from her heart, she struggled with sepsis and fungal infections before finally passing away on the 18th of January, 2019. She was only 26.

Melissa was one of the sweetest, kindest people I've ever met. A wonderfully skilled and emotive artist. She wanted to see friends get along, but would be your biggest champion if she ever felt you were wronged. She bought people together, and I'll miss her dearly. I'm not sure I'll love anyone the way I loved her again.

I chose the Garvan Institute of Medical Research as they are currently running the Hope Research Program, a four year study of 36 different autoimmune diseases, two of which Melissa potentially suffered from - Lupus and Immune Thrombocytopenia. However their research is vast, and your donation will not only benefit their Immunology section, but all of their areas of medical research.

If you don't have the money to donate, please consider giving blood. Melissa was only able to fight for as long as she did through the blood and plasma donations of others. You don't need to donate money to save a life.

When I woke up this morning, I was not expecting to find us just $47.76 short of our target! Thank you all so, so much for your kindness and for contributing in such a big way. When I made this fundraiser, I expected we'd hit the target maybe by the end of the weekend, if we were lucky. But I've been absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of all of you.

I've moved our target to $800. If we come close in the next 24 hours, we'll make it one final push for $1000 before I close the campaign at the end of the weekend. Thank you all again so much for helping to raise money in honour of Melissa. ❤
